The Last of the Lamanites
Totally kidding, but isn't this fascinating? A friend of ours sent us this news story regarding an ancient Amazon Indian tribe that still exist, untouched by our modern world, in the jungles of Brazil due to their crazy confined geographic locations. Did you know that? I didn't know that.
The photos of them and their village were taken with a super awesome lens from an airplane by a group called Survival International who are trying to create an awareness of these tribes who (according to SI) are in danger of being destroyed by illegal loggers.
I think it's kinda weird no one has managed to drop in there for a chat in an effort to find out more about these people and their culture, but kinda cool too. I'm sure (according to the picture) they'd prefer to be left alone. But seriously, doesn't this look like something from the set of Apocalypto? Apparently, they looked scared to death (hence the massive bows) because they've never seen an airplane that close.
I was thinking if I could show them just one modern convenience, what would it be? It was a toss up between a toilet, a gun (for food, although I'm sure they're archery pros) and a car. Hard call. What do you think?

ReplyDeletefunny... I would throw down a case of Diet Coke and M&M's!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, at least throw down some chocolate or something!
ReplyDeleteFrom me they'd get a Book of Mormon (here's some stuff about your ancestors guys!), a water purifier, a couple of rain coats (it is a RAINforest), and a Wii.

ReplyDeletewhoops.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was going to say is that I'd give them some deoderant, razors, and some dental hygeine supplies... just knowing that they would LOVE to know how cool hygeine can be.
yeah, i saw this on cnn as well. isnt it crazy?!? a bunch of tribes that we know nothign abt! i didnt get to see the pics of the tribes b/c the boys distracted me so thanks for posting the pics. crazy stuff! hmmm, i think i'd throw myself. hoping.....i could do a documentary...well if i didnt have kids already of course!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I would drop a cell phone and say hi. That is if they didn't try eating it. Did you ever see the documentary where they dropped a coke bottle on this tribe and they ended up going to war over it. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean "this" tribe, I mean a tribe like this. Anyway...
ReplyDeleteya, they didn't have anyone like that in the boundaries of my mission. i guess france is completely civilized or something.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd have my arrows ready to shoot, too, if I saw an airplane and didn't even know what electricity was. LOL. I'd say chocolate, but since chocolate originated over there, they may not need it. Hm, good idea with the raincoat, Phil.
ReplyDeleteI think you're talking about 'the gods must be crazy', Autumn, which is a hilarious parody of a documentary. It totally looks like one, though.
How funny! I saw a brief clip of the movie in a Humanities class. I've never actually saw the whole thing and hello, if it was a documentary, why didn't they attack the camera man?
ReplyDeleteI'd be dropping some serious toilet paper and--dare I publish this on the internet?--tampons. Two things that have changed my life. And a charged portable dvd player with the Finding Faith in Christ dvd all set to go with picture instructions of how to make it work. Hmmm, and some trail mix. I love that stuff.
